About Salsa Squad
Here at SALSA SQUAD we dont take ourselves too seriously, we know that the night is all about the people who come to dance, not about us. As you will find out at our classes we still make mistakes and on occasions get left confused with right and anti-clockwise confused with clockwise! Despite this, our classes are always filled with lots of laughter, even if if is at or own expense! Here is a bit about the Salsa Squad Team...
The Instructors - click on image for teacher details
Paul... Paul has been dancing Salsa since it first landed in Cheltenham around 15 years ago. He teaches Salsa full time and in 2009 was voted 'Top regional UK Salsa Instructor' at the UK Salsa Awards. This year he released 'The Fast Track Guide to Salsa' DVD series, available at all good SALSA SQUAD Classes!
His other passion is boxing and despite competing in 25 contests still gets caught by the occasional ladies left elbow on the dance floor! He says 'People come to our Salsa nights to have a good time, to socialise and to have fun whilst learning how to Salsa, that's what our salsa nights are all about.
Stuart... Stuart was one of Salsa Squads very first students and he has since progressed to teach the Improvers at Butlers on Tuesdays. He has the knack of being able to turn complete non-dancers into budding Salseros. His other passion is Rugby where his reputation lies in bone shaking tackles as well as a niftly little side step that he picked up from learning the Rumba! Stuart is currently taking a break whilst he gets himself fighting and dancing fit again, we all look forward to his return soon.
Nina... Meet Nina, Salsa Squads Glamorous Assistant and Original Squadette. Nina has been classically trained in dance since the age of three. She assists Paul at The Barn and The Place and looks after the Beginners at Butlers on Tuesdays,a busy lady and a rock to the SALSA SQUAD team.
Kevano... Kev (nicknamed Kevano), is from a Hip Hop/Street dance background. He teaches the Improvers at The Barn on Mondays. Kev gives a lot to his students, even after his class has finished he still takes time to help people fine tune their moves, the sign of a first class teacher.
Joe... Joe looks after the Improvers at The Place on Fridays. As with all the Salsa Squad teachers, Joe's approach is friendly and encouraging. Joe also has a reputation for dancing with every single one of the ladies during the night, twice if there is time!
Alvin... Alvin looks after the Beginners at The Barn on Mondays. He started dancing with SALSA SQUAD over 5 years ago and attended 3 lessons a week in order to master the basics ASAP. Being of Jamaican origin his classes are always light hearted and laid back whilst at the same time fun and informative. Alvin is currently addicted to Lidl chewy sweets!
Jonathan ... Jonathan, knows to his friends as JT, is the youngest of the SALSA SQUAD teaching team. He looks after the Beginners at Lace on Fridays. His warm and friendly persona puts everyone at ease and helps people relax before he gently leads them through the basic steps. From a performing arts background its not unusual to see JT break out into a tap dance routine to the delight of the onlooking crowd.....
Christoph... Chris prefers to dance a funkier style of salsa and as such, to the delight of his students, always likes to include a couple of body rolls and shoulder shimmys in his routine. For Chris it's all about giving people a good time during their class. He always keeps an eye out for people getting things right, this is made a lot easier since his recent laser eye surgery! Chris looks after the Improver Plus Classes when Paul takes a rare break!

Below we have the fantastic SQUADETTES who, if the truth be known, run the show!
But the most important people in the team are the hundreds of dancers who turn up every week to make the Salsa Squad nights what they are; a welcoming, enjoyable and safe environment for people of all ages, colours and backgrounds to get together, chat, dance and have fun, we thank you.
